Course Description:

This lecture covers various aspects of the use of human milk in the in-patient setting. Topics discussed include milk expression, supporting milk production, and principles of milk storage and handling.  The use of breast pumps, including the different categories of pumps, pump components, and the use of pump to support milk supply are covered in detail.  Faculty include two certified lactation consultants with experience in in-patient neonatal and pediatric settings.  This course was created in collaboration with the E.P.I.C. Breastfeeding Program of the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is relevant for various perinatal care team members, including nurses, providers, lactation consultants, dietitians, etc.

Emory Nursing Professional Development Center (ENPDC) is accredited as a provider of nursing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. ENPDC has evaluated everyone who has the ability to control content of this activity (planning committee members, subject matter experts, presenters) and found they have no conflict of interest.

Attendees to this activity will be awarded 1.25 Continuing Nursing Education contact hours from ENPDC.  To obtain contact hours, participants must view the entire lecture, score 80% or higher on the post-test, and complete the evaluation at the end. Certificates will be generated upon completion.
